Culture

The desk looks after the activities related to the apex sessions of UNESCO General Conference/ Executive Board and ISESCO General Conference/Executive Council. The desk also plays its active role in processing the participation of experts and delegations to UNESCO/ISESCO at national and regional meetings, conferences, workshops of policy making by other National Commissions. It maintains prompt and close communication with UNESCO & ISESCO Headquarters and their Regional offices, Ministry of Information, Broadcasting & National Heritage and All Provincial Culture Departments as well as other Federal Departments, Permanent Delegate Office in Paris and other concerned organizations in matters related to Pakistan ’s stance and interests with the auspices of UNESCO/ISESCO. The desk works directly to make any visit of UNESCO-World Heritage Centre Experts to Pakistan successful and fruitful. The activities done by this desk are typical, scheduled but sensitive and challenging.

To keep the cultural affairs intact the desk also plays an important role by organizing different days related to the cultural heritage of home and abroad. Details of activities finalized and circulated as follows:

Funding

UNESCO in cooperation with Republic of Korea launched a project titled “Local Community involvement and Sustainable Development for the Makli Hills World Heritage Property” amounting US $100,000.

The Ministry of Information, Broadcasting & National Heritage constituted the the Steering Committee comprising the following to run the said pilot project in collaboration with Govt.of Sindh including national/international advisors/coordinators:

  • Fifth session of the Conference of the Parties to the International Convention against Doping in Sport, 29-30 October, 2015 at UNESCO Hqs. Paris.

UNESCO Expert Mission visit to Moenjodaro World Heritage Site (April  2015)

UNESCO-World Heritage Centre, Paris sponsored Experts Mission to assess and suggest measures to conserve the site; namely Prof. Schuttrumpt, Director of the Hydrology and Water Resources Management Centre of the Aachen University Germany  (one of the most famous hydrology centres in Europe)  and Prof. Jansen, Chairperson of the Technical Consultative Committee for Moenjodaro. The experts visited Monejodaro on 21-25 March 2015.
